Why I Left Corporate to Start a Business | The Story Behind Den of Luxe

A Story About Time, Creativity, Motherhood, and Designing a Life That Reflects What Matters

There wasn’t a dramatic moment when I chose to leave corporate.

No breaking point.
No bold announcement.

Just a quiet realization that grew stronger over time:

The life I was living no longer matched the life I wanted.

When Everything Looks Right — But Doesn’t Feel Right

On paper, everything made sense.

I had a stable career, and my role was both demanding and deeply fulfilling. It challenged me, stretched me, and gave me a strong sense of responsibility.

And yet, something was missing.

Long days became routine.
My schedule quickly filled with constant meetings.
And over time, I noticed how little control I had over the work culture around me — something I had experienced for years.

But more than that…

I didn’t have the space to express my creative side.

There was no room to create beauty, and little opportunity to work with intention, detail, and aesthetic care.

Over time, I began to understand:

A life can be successful — and still feel incomplete.

It wasn’t just that something was missing.
It was the quiet frustration of giving so much of myself to something that no longer felt like mine.

The Decision That Brought Everything Into Focus

In my early 40s, I made a deeply personal decision:

I wanted to become a mother.

I wasn’t married. I wasn’t in a relationship. But I was certain about this one thing.

So I chose to freeze some of my eggs — a deliberate step toward creating the future I envisioned.

And with that decision came a question I couldn’t ignore:

What kind of life would I be able to offer my child?

Would I only see them early in the morning…
and then again 10 to 12 hours later?

Would my presence feel rushed… or secondary?

That wasn’t the version of motherhood I wanted.

And I realized—if nothing changed, this wouldn’t just shape my days.
It would shape the kind of life I was available for.

Wanting More Than Just Flexibility

At first, I thought what I needed was flexibility.

But as I looked closer, I realized it was more than that.

I wanted space — to think, to create, and to express a part of myself that had been quiet for too long.

I wanted to move away from constant meetings and into meaningful creation.
I wanted to have a say in the environment I was part of — not simply adapt to it.

And perhaps most importantly…

I wanted to create beauty — not just for myself, but in a way that could be felt, noticed, and remembered.

Within my own home — and, in time, within the homes of others.

The Beginning of Something More Intentional

That’s where Den of Luxe began—not as a business idea, but as a response to something I could no longer ignore.

A recognition of something I had come to understand deeply:

The feeling of being capable, thoughtful, and refined — yet somehow unseen.

Because life is full. It’s busy, demanding, and often leaves little room for anything beyond what must get done.

And as a result, for many women, their sense of style — their ability to express themselves — gets pushed aside.

Not because it isn’t there, but because there’s no time or mental space to bring it forward.

As we’ve defined in the Den of Luxe brand, our customer isn’t lacking taste — she’s lacking the time and mental bandwidth to express it.

Den of Luxe was created to give her that space back — to make her creative expression feel effortless.

A Different Kind of Expression

Den of Luxe is for the woman who doesn’t need to be loud to be noticed.

She expresses herself through details.
Through thoughtful choices.
Through the feeling her space creates.

Because true elegance doesn’t demand attention.
It holds it.

Redefining What Success Means

Leaving corporate wasn’t about walking away from something valuable.

It was about choosing something more aligned.

For me, success now looks different.

It means:

  • Having control over my time
  • Being present for the moments that matter
  • Expressing my creativity freely and intentionally
  • Creating beauty as part of everyday life
  • Building something meaningful — not just productive

It didn’t happen all at once.

But step by step, I began building a life that reflected what mattered most to me.

Den of Luxe became the embodiment of that vision.

Not just a business — but a foundation for a different way of living.

Choosing a Life That Reflects You

This journey didn’t begin with certainty.

It began with a decision.

A decision to choose:

  • Presence over pressure
  • Creativity over routine
  • Intention over obligation

Because the truth is:

The life you want rarely happens by default.
It’s something you choose — and then build, every day.

Final Thought

If your life looks right on the outside…
but doesn’t feel right on the inside…

If you’ve begun to sense that something isn’t working — even if you can’t fully explain why…

You’re not alone.

And you’re not stuck.

Sometimes, clarity doesn’t arrive all at once.
It begins quietly — as a shift in what you’re no longer willing to tolerate.

A schedule that leaves no room for you.
A role that no longer reflects who you are becoming.
A life that feels structured… but not truly yours.

And once you see it clearly, it becomes difficult to unsee.

If this resonates with you…

If you find yourself wanting something different — something more intentional, more considered, more aligned…

You don’t need to have all the answers.

The first step may be to simply allow yourself to notice what no longer fits… and what you may be ready to choose instead.
